These sessions will offer guided practices and teaching offering a chance to explore certain meditative skills or capacities that serve our ability “fabricate less experience” or release clinging. They will be practice-oriented and emphasize working with relatively subtle objects and aspects of the self-sense. These drop-in meetings will rely on a practitioners existing practice and familiarity with the concepts and practices of buddhist insight meditation (most notably the path of insight as outlined in Rob Burbea’s book, “Seeing that Frees”). They also will offer a chance for meditators to share a practice space, & hear from each other. If there are those interested for small group sharing at the end of each meeting, breakout rooms will be facilitated.
These are drop-in sessions, meaning you can come to one, some, or all. There may be some ideas carried over from session to session, so attending the full set may be most helpful.
Who they are for…
These sessions will be well suited to those who’ve taken the “Approaching Emptiness” course with Yahel Avigur and myself. If you have not, but are working with Rob Burbea’s insight methods & wish to come you are very welcome to join- but these sessions will not offer a lot of explanation, and so will not be helpful to those new to insight practice.
As with any insight practices, the meditations that will be offered encourage the opening of new, freeing and potentially disorienting perspectives on our sense of self and sense of the world. These are drop-in sessions offered without a context of ongoing support. Therefore it is asked that you feel stable and well-resourced within your own practice. If you have any questions please feel free to ask using the “contact” page.
What we’ll do
I’ll offer a guided practice along with some teaching each week. This will not be a course on a particular practice or area of teaching. Instead each week I’ll offer practice and teaching elements focused on a particular skill/facet of insight meditation practice.
Each session will meet up to 90 minutes consisting of roughly:
– 40 minutes of practice
– 20 minutes of teaching
– 30 minutes for group questions/reports.
